Rhythmic Movement Therapy

RMT is a movement based programme that works to integrate the primitive reflexes that develop in the womb and during the first few years of life. If these reflexes are not fully developed and integrated, the child, or adult, is likely to experience difficulties in one or more of these areas: learning, concentration, memory, sensory integration, coordination of fine and gross motor skills, and can contribute to anxiety, depression and behavioural problems.

After the initial assessment carried out in the first session, the child (or adult) will be given three or four exercises to be done at home – these will take between 5 and 20 minutes a day. Treatment sessions are on a monthly basis and after each session the child or adult will be given further exercises to do at home for that month.

RMT is especially beneficial in helping to improve learning and development challenges eg ADD, ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, ASD as well as supporting children and adults with emotional, social and physical challenges, or following brain injury, with anxiety states and neurological diseases such as Parkinsons. I have been using RMT with some of my patients who have Fibromyalgia and have been seeing positive results.
